Case – U.S.S. President Monroe Christmas 1944

Wartime leather cigarette case marked «USS PRESIDENT MONROE Christmas 1944» in inverse relief on the front flap.

U.S.S. President Monroe (AP-104) was a President Jackson-class attack transport active in the Pacific during WWII. Commissioned into service with the War Shipping Administration, the President Monroe carried American servicemen across the ocean to forward bases and combat zones. In 1945 she transported troops bound for the invasion of Iwo Jima and later supported operations in the Philippines and Okinawa, part of the massive logistical effort that sustained Allied advances across the Pacific.
