1/35 Infantry – «Echo’s Executioners»

Company E, 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division was a U.S. Army combat specialist company that served in the Central Highlands of South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Rather than functioning as a conventional rifle company, Echo Company brought together specialized combat elements including reconnaissance troops, 4.2-inch mortar crews and 106 mm recoilless-rifle teams. These soldiers operated alongside the battalion’s frontline rifle companies, conducting reconnaissance, providing heavy fire support and taking part in combat operations across the Pleiku area and toward the Cambodian border. In 1969, the 1/35th Infantry, known as the «Cacti», was heavily engaged in the Central Highlands and built a strong reputation for aggressive field operations and sustained combat service.

Zippo factory engraved with the unit details «1/35th INF 3rd BDE – ECHO’S EXECUTIONERS» on the front side, together with a shield featuring the 35th Infantry Regiment’s cactus insignia and the designations «RECON – DEUCE – 106», referring to Echo Company’s reconnaissance troops, 4.2-inch mortar crews and 106 mm recoilless-rifle teams. The regimental motto «TAKE ARMS» appears below. The back side features the 4th Infantry Division’s shoulder sleeve insignia, with the Combat Infantryman Badge above and «VIETNAM» below. The Zippo is accompanied by a group of original period photographs from the former owner’s service in Vietnam, together with his Combat Infantryman Badge, adding valuable personal provenance to the piece.
