101st Airborne Division – Bill Shelby
William H. Shelby served with the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. The division deployed to Vietnam in late 1967, becoming one of the U.S. Army's premier airmobile combat formations. From bases in I Corps Tactical Zone, its airborne infantry battalions conducted helicopter-borne assaults, search-and-destroy operations, and security missions against North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong forces. Tracing its distinguished lineage to WWII, the «Screaming Eagles» earned a great combat reputation in Vietnam, participating in some of the war's most demanding operations before later being redesignated as the 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile).
Period engraved in Vietnam on the front with the owner's name «BILL SHELBY», above the inscriptions «101st ABN» and «U.S. PARATROOPER», followed by the quotation «To those who fought for it, freedom is a taste the protected will never know».
