2/47th Infantry (Mech) – Panthers

The 2nd Battalion, 47th Infantry Regiment served as a mechanized infantry unit of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era, operating in an armored role alongside tanks and armored personnel carriers. Known as the «Panthers», the battalion emphasized rapid mobility, aggressive maneuver, and sustained combat readiness. Mechanized infantry units such as the 2/47th conducted convoy security, area patrols, quick-reaction operations, and offensive sweeps in contested regions, providing both infantry firepower and armored protection. Their mission profile required constant alertness and discipline, reflected in the motto «Up Tight – Ready to Fight».
