5th Cavalry Regiment – «Loyal Courage»

«Echo» Company E, 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), served as a combat support and heavy weapons element during the Vietnam War. Associated with the battalion’s 81 mm mortar operations, Echo Company provided indirect fire support, firebase defense, and logistical support for frontline infantry units operating in hostile jungle and border regions. As part of the Army’s pioneering airmobile division, the company relied heavily on helicopter transport to establish and defend remote fire support bases while supporting combat operations across South Vietnam during 1969–1971.


Zippo factory engraved with the «Loyal Courage» unit insignia and unit details «Co E 2d BN (AM) 5th CAV 1st AIR CAV DIVISION» engraved on the front side, together with the hand engraved initials «W R» above the insignia, and the 1st Cavalry Division shoulder sleeve insignia with the Combat Infantryman Badge engraved on the back side.
