619th Tactical Control Squadron – «Paris Control»

The 619th Tactical Control Squadron (619th TCS) was one of the U.S. Air Force's principal radar and air control units in South Vietnam. Stationed at Tan Son Nhut Air Base near Saigon, the squadron operated the «Paris» Control and Reporting Center (CRC), providing radar surveillance, aircraft identification, air traffic control, and tactical direction for U.S. and allied aircraft throughout the southern part of South Vietnam. Assigned to the 505th Tactical Control Group, the 619th TCS formed an important part of the countrywide tactical air control system and maintained additional radar detachments at several locations. Paris Control also provided flight following and navigational assistance and supported aircraft during emergencies; its role extended even to coordinating inbound Dustoff medical evacuation helicopters with treatment facilities around Saigon. The distinctive twin radar domes at Tan Son Nhut became one of the recognizable landmarks of the air base and gave Paris Control its characteristic appearance.
