620th Tactical Control Squadron – «Monkey Mountain»

The 620th Tactical Control Squadron (620th TCS) was one of the U.S. Air Force's principal radar and air control units in South Vietnam. Stationed atop Monkey Mountain (Sơn Trà Mountain) overlooking Da Nang Harbor, the squadron operated the «Panama» Control and Reporting Center (CRC), providing radar surveillance, aircraft identification, air traffic control, and tactical direction for U.S. and allied combat aircraft throughout the northern part of South Vietnam and into Laos. Assigned to the 505th Tactical Control Group, the 620th TCS played a vital role during the Vietnam War by coordinating fighter intercepts, controlling strike aircraft, and supporting the air defense of the Da Nang area. The facility's commanding position, more than 700 meters above sea level, offered exceptional radar coverage, making Monkey Mountain one of the most important air control sites in the theater.
