U.S. Navy Coastal Squadron Three – Checkmate
Vietnam Zippo factory engraved on the front with a ship and on the reverse with the insignia of U.S. Navy Coastal Squadron Three. The lid is hand engraved with «CAM RANH BAY» and the dates «68–69» below on one side, and «PETE» on the other, identifying the U.S. Navy serviceman to whom the lighter belonged.
In the late 1960s, U.S. Navy Coastal Squadron Three operated fast patrol craft as part of Operation Market Time, conducting coastal interdiction and maritime security missions to prevent the infiltration of men and supplies along the South Vietnamese coastline during the Vietnam War.
