Palermo – Chester F. Bragiel
Chester F. Bragiel (3009462) served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Boatswain's Mate Second Class (BM2c). In April 1945 he arrived at Oran, Algeria, aboard the stores ship USS Tarazed (AF-13) while assigned to Commander, Eighth Fleet. During the final months of the war in Europe, Allied naval forces operating from North African and Italian ports supported the continuing campaign in the Mediterranean. Palermo, Sicily, liberated by Allied forces in 1943, became an important naval and logistical center for these operations.
