U.S. 112th Infantry Regiment – engraved by Zippo

An organic unit of the U.S. 28th Infantry Division, the 112th Infantry Regiment was called to active federal service on 17 February 1941, ten months before the attack on Pearl Harbor. The regiment entered continental Europe through Normandy following the Allied landings and participated in the advance across France during the liberation of Paris before becoming heavily engaged in the Huertgen Forest and the Battle of the Bulge. Severe combat losses sustained during these campaigns at one point reduced the regiment to approximately 300 effective men.

Worn Zippo lighter with diagonal line decoration and period engraving. The front bears the insignia of the U.S. 112th Infantry Regiment, while the reverse is engraved “GOOD LUCK, POST 212 V.F.W.”, referring to the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Bradford, Pennsylvania.
