U.S. 14th Constabulary Regiment – Elmer Michaels

The U.S. Constabulary originated in mid-1945 after Germany’s surrender and was formally organized in 1946 as a highly mobile occupation and border security force within the American Zone of occupied Germany. Formed largely from cavalry and reconnaissance units, the Constabulary conducted patrols, anti-smuggling operations, displaced persons control, and internal security duties during the transition from wartime operations into the early Cold War period. The 14th Constabulary Regiment served in Bavaria, including the Bad Neuhaus area referenced in the accompanying 1946 photo album belonging to P.F.C. Elmer Michaels.


Black crackle Zippo hand engraved on the front side with the initials «E.M.» and the number «14», corresponding to the owner, P.F.C. Elmer Michaels of the 14th Constabulary Regiment. The reverse side features a large hand-engraved insignia of the U.S. Constabulary.
