U.S. 8th Infantry Division – «Golden Arrow»

During WWII, the owner first served with Company F, 8th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, landing on Utah Beach on 6 June 1944 during the Normandy invasion. Assigned to the Uncle Red assault sector, the regiment fought its way inland from the beachhead and participated in the liberation of France. Advancing across Normandy and northern France, the unit reached Paris in August 1944 before continuing east toward the German border. Later in the war, the owner served with the U.S. 8th Infantry Division. In November 1944, the division took part in the bitter fighting in the Hürtgen Forest. In early March 1945, it advanced into the Rhineland and fought its way into the Ruhr region the following month. By war's end, the division had reached the Elbe River in central Germany. On 2 May 1945, as it advanced into northern Germany, the division encountered the Wöbbelin subcamp of Neuengamme concentration camp near Ludwigslust.
